More than 100,000 people live within five kilometres of Nkhotakota’s boundaries, making it imperative that they can sustainably access the reserve’s resources, and benefit from its existence. The relationship with the community continues to be an area of focus IDEA and is showing a strong and steady improvement.

Such hives are supported by posts and connected by wires, so that pressure on the wire disturbs the nearest occupied hives along the fence. Thatched roofs protect the hives from direct sunlight. The NGO IDEA adopted this design from Sagalla in Kenya. It is a biological methods of discouraging elephants from approaching communities crop fields. (Innovative least cost sustainable approaches)
Wildlife Protection
